KHUNTI - District at a Glance

Khunti is the headquarters of Khunti district of the state. It is one of the twenty-four districts in South Chotanagpur division of Jharkhand. The district of Khunti was carved out of Ranchi district on 12 September 2007. It is historically known as the centre of activity of the Birsa movement. Khunti town is the headquarters of the district. As of 2011, it is the second least populous district of Jharkhand (out of 24), after Lohardaga. In 2011, Khunti had population of 531,885 of which male and female were 266,335 and 265,550 respectively. Average literacy rate of Khunti in 2011 were 63.86 compared to 52.92 of 2001. With regards to Sex Ratio in Khunti, it stood at 997 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 992.
